Product description

Drug Name

Noroxin (Norfloxacin)

Noroxin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is used for treating several bacterial infections. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Noroxin can be taken by mouth with or without food to avoid an upset stomach.

Take it for the entire duration of treatment preferably at the same time everyday (1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal). The ideal dosage for an adult is 800mg a day.

Do not stop without consulting your doctor. The best way to use the drug is as recommended by your doctor.

Noroxin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic only deals with bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (for example, common cold, flu).

Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

If you miss a dose of Noroxin then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Store it at room temperature (between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture. Keep away from pets and children.

Before using noroxin, inform your doctor whether you are allergic to it or to other quinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin, gatifloxacin, gemifloxacin, levofloxacin, lomefloxacin, moxifloxacin or ofloxacin, or if you have any other allergies.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially whether you have:

  • seizures, brain disorders (for example, cerebral arteriosclerosis, tumors, increased intracranial pressure), muscle disease / weakness (for example, myasthenia), heart problems (for example, cardiomyopathy, slow heart rate, torsades pirouette, QTc interval prolongation), kidney disease, mineral imbalance (for example, low potassium or magnesium), tendonitis / tendon problems.

Noroxin may cause drowsiness. These effects get aggravated if you take it with alcohol or certain other medications (sleep aids, muscle relaxers). So, do not drive or perform other potentially hazardous tasks until you know how your body reacts to the drug.

Nausea, headache, upset stomach, weakness, dizziness, diarrhea or drowsiness. If any of these effects persist or become worse, notify your doctor immediately. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication, as there are more benefits for you in this medicament than side effects.

Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these hardly probable but serious side effects occur: tremor, sunburn as a skin reaction (sun sensitivity).

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: seizures, mood changes (including rare thoughts of suicide), persistent sore throat / fever, vision changes, hearing loss, changes in appearance or urine, yellowing eyes / skin, fainting, fast / slow / irregular heartbeat, easy bruising / bleeding, numbness / tingling of hands / feet.

This medicine may rarely cause tendon disorders (for example, tendon rupture, tendinitis). Relax and consult your doctor immediately if you experience pain in the tendons.

This medicine may rarely cause severe intestinal disease (pseudomembranous colitis) due to resistant bacteria. This condition may occur after cessation of treatment. Do not use anti-diarrheal drugs or narcotic pain medications if you have the following symptoms, because these products can make them worse. Tell your doctor immediately if you have noticed: persistent diarrhea, stomach pain, cramping, blood / mucus in your stool. Taking this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may lead to new vaginal yeast infection (oral or vaginal fungal infection).

Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is hardly to happen, but immediately consult your doctor, if this occurs. Symptoms connected with serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects, which are not listed above, contact your doctor.

Do not use this medication with other ones. This medication has been prescribed for your current condition. Do not use it later for another infection unless it is recommended by a doctor. Laboratory and / or medical tests (for example, kidney function test, blood test) can be performed periodically to monitor your progress or side effects.
